Hot DR is often a live parallel deployment of data and workloads that operate concurrently.  That is, both the primary and backup data centers operate the same workload and data in synchronization, with both sites sharing a portion of the overall application traffic.  When a calamity strikes one site, the surviving site continues to function without interruption.  Users should be oblivious of the disturbance. Although there is no downtime with hot DR, it is the most expensive and difficult option.
